Botox / Dermal Filler
Lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and thinning lips can be professionally and discreetly treated during an office visit.
With aging, skin loses volume and elasticity. It becomes thin and wrinkles as dermal collagen, hyaluronic acid, elastin and other components diminish. Sun exposure and smoking can cause similar effects. With time, lines and wrinkles once visible during smiling, frowning, or other habitual facial expression become permanent even at rest.
Botox and similar neuromuscular relaxants are proteins isolated from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When small quantities are injected into target muscles of the face, contraction of those muscles is reduced, resulting in smoothing of wrinkles.
Dermal fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring compound in the dermis of the skin and provides structural support, volume, and nutrients to the skin. Injection of fillers into the dermis replaces lost volume and also stimulates natural synthesis of collagen. This leads to refinement of wrinkles and facial contours.
A youthful appearance can be achieved and maintained with the gentle, gradual, minimally invasive approach of neuromuscular relaxants and dermal fillers instead of the extreme makeovers of plastic surgery which radically alters appearance and requires prolonged recovery time.
WHAT TO KNOW AND EXPECT
- We apply a topical anesthetic to the face. Once it takes effect, we use a small needle to inject the skin
- These healthy enhancements will add to a more youthful appearance within about a week. Botox is best suited for wrinkles that become apparent during facial expression, and its effect lasts about 5 months. Dermal fillers are better suited for lines present while the face is at rest; effect lasts about 6 months.
- Redness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising are not unusual several days after such procedures and can be minimized with application of ice and topical vitamins/botanicals offered at our office.
